PHP Sussex September | Securing Your API + Side Project Behind-the-Scenes
By PHP Sussex
This month we've got a couple of talks for you.
First up is Tamas Erdelyi with a lightning-ish talk about his experience building Meet with Tech, a side project that makes running tech communities a little easier for everyone. Tamas is a Senior Software Engineer at PHPFixer and a long-time meetup and conference attendee.
He''ll be followed by returning speaker Rob Allen with a talk on the OWASP API Security Top 10, a list of the most critical security risks affecting APIs and how to prevent them. Rob is an API Consultant at Nineteen Feet and a regular conference speaker.
The meetup will take place at Runway East in Brighton from 6:30 pm, with talks starting at around 7 pm. As always, there will be food and drinks and plenty of time to chat with fellow developers. After the talk, we’ll head to Unbarred Taproom, a 2-minute walk from our venue, to wind up the evening over a craft beer 🍻.
Meet with Tech: Building a platform for tech communities
In this talk, Tamas will share the story behind the Meet with Tech project, some of the technical challenges he's faced along the way, and what's planned over the coming months. Whether you're a meetup organiser, speaker, or simply interested in building products for communities, you'll get a behind-the-scenes look at how the project came to life and where it's heading next.
Securing Your API: The OWASP API Top 10
APIs are the foundation of our applications today and need to be secure. From broken authorisation and authentication to injection attacks, the OWASP API Security Top 10 identifies the most critical security issues facing APIs today. In this talk, we'll walk through the items on the list, explore each of these security flaws, and look at how to prevent them. By the end of this session, you'll have a clear understanding of the most critical API security risks and be equipped with the knowledge to build more secure APIs.
