2026-05-27 Standard AI

By Brighton Data Forum

Brighton & Hove 27 May 2026, 17:45 to 19:45

Welcome to the latest installment of the Brighton Data Forum!

This will be a standard event, hosted by our loyal hosts at Barclay's Eagle Labs in their Platf9rm offices, supported by Silicon Brighton and sponsored by Rittman Analytics. This time, we have two speakers on the topic of standards.

Standardising AI and the concepts that support it
We all depend on standards—but rarely think about where they come from or how they’re made. This talk explores the hidden standards behind the tools and technologies you use every day, from C++ to AI and data governance. Guy Davidson and Sinead Fitzgerald will share how standards are created, why they matter in practice, and how they got involved—along with practical ways you can engage if you’re curious.

About the speakers:

Sinead Fitzgerald, Principal Data Architect at Paxton Access, serves on technical committees at BSI, CEN/CENELEC and ISO/IEC, with a focus on AI and data governance. She brings 30+ years’ experience across software engineering, data management and architecture, leading data strategy, standards, and organisational change at Paxton Access.
Guy Davidson, Convenor of the ISO C++ programming language and BSI Chair of Programming Languages, is the author of Beautiful C++.
Formerly Head of Engineering Practice at Creative Assembly, where he worked primarily on the Total War franchise, he is an experienced international speaker and Chair of the ACCU Conference. He also serves on advisory boards for several universities, contributing to engineering curricula and supporting student development from undergraduate to postdoctoral level.
