This Week in Sussex Tech: August 24th

Hello,

The summer holidays are still in full swing, so things are a little quieter than usual this week. Behind the scenes, though, I’ve been doing a little bug-squashing: missing events should now be showing up on the site, and every new event will also be announced in the #events channel on Slack.

Here are a few Sussex Digital picks for the week ahead.

Job of the week

Software Engineer Manager

Brighton & Hove City Council | Brighton & Hove | £57,755–£63,123

Brighton & Hove City Council is looking for someone to lead and mentor its software engineering team, modernise legacy applications and help deliver secure, accessible digital services for the city. Applications close on 6 September.

Event picks

Brighton Indie Coffee

When and where: 25 Aug 2026, 9:30am to 12:30pm | Brighton & Hove | Brighton Indie Gamedev Events

Brighton Indie Coffee is back at St. Ann’s Well Garden Cafe, with the usual no-agenda format for local gamedevs. It’s a straightforward Brighton meet-up: projects, advice, contacts, or just a chat over coffee.

Work From Here Wednesday

When and where: 26 Aug 2026, 8:30am to 5:00pm | Crawley | Crawley Innovation Centre

Work From Here Wednesday brings Crawley Innovation Centre’s shared office space into play for a free day of working away from home. The listing also mentions a lunch-and-learn slot with business advice, which gives the day a bit more structure than a typical coworking drop-in.

Skillshare Thursday #5: Developing Multiplayer with Netcode for GameObjects

When and where: 27 Aug 2026, 5:00pm to 6:00pm | Brighton & Hove | BUUG – Brighton Unity User Group

BUUG’s Skillshare Thursday keeps things focused with a one-hour online talk on developing multiplayer with Netcode for GameObjects. The practical angle is clear from the listing, with client-server basics, Unity Relay, and a short Q&A at the end.

WorthingDigital Social

When and where: 27 Aug 2026, 7:00pm to 10:00pm | Worthing | WorthingDigital

WorthingDigital Social takes the usual relaxed route at The Old Bike Store: no agenda, no talks, no sales pitches. Worthing doesn’t always get the same volume of digital meetups as Brighton, so these low-key evenings stand out for their simplicity.

That’s all for this week. Things should start picking up again as September approaches, but there’s still plenty here if you fancy getting out of the house and meeting some good people.

If you make it along to anything, let us know in Slack.

Thanks for reading,
Mark
