Sorry this week’s newsletter is arriving a little later than usual. I’ve been in Scotland celebrating a wedding over the weekend, and I’m travelling home right now. Somewhere in amongst the celebrations, sending this slipped my mind!

codebar Brighton – Tuesday 15 September, 6.30pm
Bamboo Nine hosts an evening of programming with support from volunteer coaches. Bring a course or project to work through at your own pace, or sign up as a coach if you’d like to help others. Pizza first, coding from 7pm. Details and registration.
Navigating the Funding Landscape – Wednesday 16 September, 9.30am, Crawley
A free panel at Crawley Innovation Centre covering business funding, including debt and alternative finance. For anyone considering raising money, the discussion will cover what funders look for and common mistakes to avoid. Details and registration.
Green Software Brighton – Wednesday 16 September, 6pm
Two talks at Runway East: Fiona MacNeill on making digital sustainability part of everyday work as a contractor, and Mark Buss on OVO’s collaborative approach to responsible AI. There’s also an online option, with talks starting at 6.30pm. Details and registration.
AWS Brighton – Thursday 17 September, 6pm
A practical workshop at Freedom Works exploring Amazon Quick for business automation and insights. Bring a laptop if you can; the organisers provide a sandbox environment, so you don’t need your own AWS account. Details and registration.
A couple of jobs
Data & AI Governance Partner — Southern Water, Worthing
£55,000. A role focused on making data and AI governance work in practice, covering ownership, quality and responsible use across the organisation. Applications close 17 September, so this one needs a look soon. View the role.
Software Engineering Apprenticeship — American Express, Burgess Hill
An 18-month programme for 2027 combining software development work with a Level 4 qualification. It’s a full-time, hybrid role, with applications listed as closing on 9 October and reviewed as they arrive. View the role.
