The home of Sussex’s digital community

This Week in Sussex Tech: Issue 15

Hello,

I hope you’re managing to stay reasonably cool in this week’s heatwave. Between the weather and the World Cup affecting everyone’s calendars, it’s been one of those weeks where organising community events has felt a little more challenging than usual. If you’ve been trying to find a date that doesn’t clash with football, holidays or melting in the sun, you have my sympathy.

On a more positive note, I had the opportunity last week to present SussexDigital to the Greater Brighton Programme Board. It was a great chance to talk about the vision behind SussexDigital and why making our region’s digital ecosystem more visible matters. If you’re interested, I’ve published the presentation deck, which you can take a look at here.

As always, there’s plenty happening across Sussex over the coming weeks. Whether you’re looking to learn something new, meet people, find your next opportunity or simply see what’s happening nearby, I hope there’s something in this week’s edition for you..

Event picks

Feast Of The Devs

When and where: 14 Jul 2026 to 15 Jul 2026, 6:00pm to 12:00am | Brighton & Hove | Sussex Games

A fringe games gathering tied to the first night of Develop:Brighton, this one is centred on food, socialising and a more accessible setting than many industry mixers. It’s at Tempest, with free food and a stated focus on inclusivity, plus practical details on access and quiet-space planning.

Hivemind World Games Mixer – Brighton

When and where: 15 Jul 2026 to 16 Jul 2026, 6:00pm to 1:00am | Brighton & Hove

Hivemind World’s Brighton mixer is invitation-only and aimed squarely at founders, executives, publishers and investors around games. The format leans on roundtables and curated speed networking, so it reads more structured than a standard drinks reception.

Where did all your tokens go?

When and where: 15 Jul 2026, 6:00pm to 8:00pm | Brighton & Hove | Green Software Brighton

Green Software Brighton keeps returning to a timely question: what happens when agentic coding tools start costing real money in tokens? Annie’s talk looks at measuring that usage properly, with a hybrid format, pizza from 18:00 and a usual post-talk drink nearby.

Eastbourne DigiFiesta

When and where: 17 Jul 2026, 5:30pm to 8:30pm | Eastbourne | Eastbourne DigiFest

Eastbourne’s summer digital social is back at FOUNDRY, with pizza, drinks and a House of Games-style quiz before the break. It also follows the Chalk Eastbourne merger into Eastbourne DigiFest, so this is the continuation of a familiar local meetup rather than a one-off.

Vibe Coding Workshop for Non-Developers: Build Your Own App

When and where: 18 Jul 2026, 10:00am | East Sussex | Brighton Vibe Coding

A one-day workshop in East Sussex for building a web app with AI, using a vibe-coding approach rather than traditional coding from scratch. The listing is unusually candid about the limits too: you’ll need a ChatGPT Plus subscription, and the day depends on how ambitious the app idea is.

That’s it for this week.
