This Week in Sussex Tech: Issue 05

Welcome to This Week in Sussex Tech.

There’s been a pretty chunky round of updates on SussexDigital over the past few days, mostly focused on making events easier to browse and the site a bit more useful day to day. You can now explore events by interest straight from main events page, with categories like tech, startup and business, networking, and learning and workshops. I’ve also added dedicated location pages for places like Brighton & Hove, Worthing, Chichester and beyond, each with their own RSS and calendar feeds so you can subscribe to just the bits you care about.

The main events page has had a tidy up too, with clearer filter tabs, better guidance on how subscriptions work, and some smarter pointers to live event listings. More broadly, I’ve been improving the structure behind the scenes, including better SEO-friendly landing pages for interests and locations, breadcrumbs, and more relevant suggestions for related events, communities and coworking spaces.

A few other nice additions: communities can now be sorted more easily, dark mode is live (and actually readable), and newsletters are now properly archived on the site rather than just living in Beehiiv. I’ve also added a lightweight Slack helper called Rocky, who can surface events, answer questions and occasionally chip in with questionable enthusiasm, plus some Slack alerts and test coverage to keep things running smoothly.

All in all, lots of small improvements that should make it easier to discover what’s going on across Sussex, with more useful content to come soon.

Here’s a taste of what’s happening this week

This week’s picks are heavily AI-flavoured, with a nice mix of community, learning, and practical business support.

🚀 Opportunity: AccelerateTech (Win £20k of support)

Sussex Innovation has just launched AccelerateTech, a new competition aimed at early-stage tech and deep tech ventures across Sussex.

The winner gets a package worth £20,000, including a year of free office space, expert mentoring, and a place on their new Tech Accelerator programme. Finalists also get access to the accelerator, so it’s not just a winner-takes-all deal.

They’re particularly looking for ambitious, scalable ideas built around emerging technologies like AI, robotics, quantum, and advanced materials.

If you’re working on something interesting and need the right support to move faster, this is well worth a look.
